This is the section that started FlicksCentral.com and remains one my favorties to update. No matter how many different updates, this site goes through, I always try to update this part of it. Here you can find out all of the information on the new films coming out to your local Cineplex.

I never really know what to do with the January to April time frame. With the summer movie season forthcoming and the Oscar season almost over, audiences have a rough go of it during this timeframe.  So I'm going to back to basics and doing what I originally intended this site to do; highlight the best options for moviegoers like myself.

Enjoy and see you at the movies!

Leatherheads
Starring: George Clooney , Renée Zellweger , John Krasinski , Jonathan Pryce & Stephen Root
Directed by: George Clooney for distribution by Universal

Dodge Connelly (Clooney) is a brash but talented football star, who must find a way to save his team and the sport after the league faces failure during its early years. Dodge's answer is Carter Rutherford (Krasinski), a young athletic war-hero. Determined to bring people and revenue back to the sport he loves, Dodge is ready to stand by his solution. Enter Lexie Littleton (Zellweger), a young journalist anxious to make a name for herself. Convinced by her editor, that Carter's famed war stories have a few holes missing, Lexie begins to investigate, much to Dodge's dismay. Although when Dodge and Carter begin to each fall for Lexie, all bets are off.
The Final Word: George Clooney is clearly one of the most sought off after men in Hollywood. Not only can he act, write and direct but he is also charismatic. Yet many question if he can have a sucessful film that doesn't begin with the word Ocean.
APRIL 4

Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears A Who
Starring the voices of: Jim Carrey , Steve Carell , Carol Burnett , Seth Rogen & Will Arnett
Directed by: Jimmy Hayward & Steve Martino for distribution by 20th Century Fox
An elephant (Carrey) named Horton is looked down upon by his community for what they see as an over-active imagination. It doesn't help Horton's case when he insists a spec of dust actually contains a living breathing universe. The interesting thing is that for once Horton is right and it is up to him to save it and all of its inhabitants from extinction.
The Final Word: The loveable Dr. Seuss story gets a CGI overhaul in this star-studded film. Headlined by funnymen Carrey and Carrell, 20th Century Fox is hoping for a big Easter hit.
MARCH 14

Cloverfield
Starring: Michael Stahl-David , Odette Yustman , Lizzy Caplan , Jessica Lucas & T.J. Miller
Directed by: Matt Reeves for distribution by Paramount
On the eve of their friends going away party, a group of New York twentysomethings find themselves being hunted by….. Well nobody's quite sure what “it” is, but one thing is for sure: “it's” winning. As the group race back into harm's race to rescue a friend, they must band together to stay alive or at least out of the monster's path.
The Final Word: This movie will either be credited with one of the best viral marketing campaigns of all time or it will just go down as the next "Snakes on a Plane." With “Lost's” J.J. Abrams, being the creative genius behind Cloverfield, it stands to reason the movie will live up to the hype; that is if its shaky “steady cam” shots don't chase viewers out of the theatres.
JANUARY 18

Jumper
Starring: Hayden Christensen , Samuel L. Jackson , Rachel Bilson & Jamie Bell
Directed by: Doug Liman for distribution by 20th Century Fox

A genetic anomaly allows a young man named Davey (Christensen), to literally “jump” through time. Although Davey soon learns his “gift” isn't that unordinary, in fact people like him have been “jumping” for centuries. Then again he also is about to find out people are also jumping after him and his kind. Individuals with his gift have found themselves targeted by a group whose sole purpose is to eliminate them and their abnormality. As Davey find himself being closed in on, it is up to him and his girlfriend (Bilson) to find a way to escape enemies who literally have no boundaries.
The Final Word: It's February, so it must be time for the studios to begin clamoring for top position at the box office all over again. With the award season over, the focus drifts or “jumps” to the financial bottom line, which generally means big ticket films. With a big name cast as well, the studio is hoping for success over the film's opening holiday weekend, but can the once mighty Christensen regain his box office form? For that matter can any of the leads?
FEBRUARY 14

27 Dresses
Starring: Katherine Heigl , James Marsden , Malin Akerman , Ed Burns & Melora Hardin
Directed by: Anne Fletcher for distribution by 20th Century Fox
The expression always a bridesmaid, never a bride has never rung more true than for Jane (Heigl). This idealistic young lady has been a bridesmaid a astounding 27 times and has all the dresses to prove it. Now when she thinks she has finally found her Mr. Right (Burns), it turns out he's in love with her sister Tess (Akerman). Fully prepared to bow out like she always does, Jane is soon torn as to what to do, especially after she meets a newspaper reporter intent on using her story as his way to the front page.
The Final Word: Katherine Heigl has cemented herself as a leading lady after last summer's surprise hit “Knocked Up.” Well aware of that, Fox has taken the bold step of moving “Dresses” into the same opening weekend as Paramount's “Cloverfield.” An ordinarily ridiculous move just may pay off both the studio and its star. After all with one more strong showing for Heigl, she could be checking out of “Grey's Anatomy” for good. A $20 million plus opening weekend could make that a reality come sooner than ABC would like, but that is just what might happen; “Cloverfield” or not.
JANUARY 18

10,000 BC
Starring: Steven Strait , Camilla Belle , Cliff Curtis , Omar Sharif & Tim Barlow
Directed by: Roland Emmerich for distribution by Warner Brothers

In a remote mountain village, a young warrior named D'Leh (Strait) falls for the beautiful Evolet (Belle). Before the two can live happily ever after, a group of mysterious warlords lay siege to their village and kidnap Evolet. Vowing to rescue his love, D'Leh leads a group of unlikely heroes on a quest across the treacherous prehistoric land, until coming upon a discovery nobody was expecting!
The Final Word: Honestly, based on the trailer I didn't see the appeal. It is a virtually no-name cast with an indiscernible plot directed by a man known for blockbuster movies. Granted now that I know the story, I have more interest and the fact that is on IMAX adds to its value. Although will audiences go to see anything just because it is on IMAX? If so, then maybe knowing the plot isn't that important after all.
MARCH 7

Vantage Point
Starring: Dennis Quiad, Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker & Sigourney Weaver
Directed by: Peter Travis for distribution by Columbia Pictures (Sony)

After an attempt is made overseas on the President's life, two Secret Service agents (Quaid, Fox), must clamor to find the attacker. With each witness adding a new wrinkle to the story, it soon becomes clear that it will take everyone's point of view find out what really happened.
The Final Word: The concept is actually really simple and really clever. Eight people, with eight different vantage points, all see one event a different way. Audiences love these type of movies when done right, but they haven't been done right in a while. Here's hoping!
FEBRUARY 21

Rambo
Starring: Sylvester Stallone , Julie Benz , Paul Schulze & Matthew Marsden
Directed by: Sylvester Stallone for distribution by Lionsgate

Over the last twenty years, John Rambo (Stallone) has retreated to the solidarity of the forest. This once lethal super solider has now opted for a life free of violence and humanity. Although he begrudgingly decides to come out of retirement to help a group of missionaries looking to aid innocent people caught in a war between the borders of two nearby groups. His decision quickly turns into more than he bargained for after the missionaries are later kidnapped and he must come to their rescue.
The Final Word: Some question whether the aging action star should still be churning out sequels to franchises retired decades ago. Stallone isn't one of them. After his latest (and possibly last) installment of “Rocky” pulled in surprising opening week numbers, audiences seem at least willing to give the new “Rambo” a shot, but the critics may be another story.
JANUARY 18

The Spiderwick Chronicles
Starring: Freddie Highmore, Mary Louise-Parker, Nick Nolte & Joan Plowright.
Directed by: Mark Walters for distribution by Paramount Pictures
When the Grace family moves to the house of their Uncle Spiderwick, strange events and accidents begin to occur. With no other answers, the family blames Jared (Highmore), the eldest son, but when he and his siblings between to investigate they learn about the secrets of the Spiderwick estate and the mystical creatures that secretly inhabit it.
The Final Word: With every studio desperate for the next “Harry Potter” Paramount heads back to the drawing broad after the studio's 2004 “Lemony Snicket” film underperformed. Although if the movies have taught us anything in recent years, movies based on books don't always translate to a profitable film franchise.
FEBRUARY 14

21
Starring: Jim Sturgess , Kate Bosworth , Laurence Fishburne , Kevin Spacey & Liza Lapira ,
Directed by: Robert Luketic for distribution by Columbia Pictures (Sony)
It is well known that beating the odds in any casino is tough, but for a group of M.I.T. students, the odds are in their favor. Ben Campbell (Sturgess) is an introverted genius, who is about to meet Micky Rosa (Spacey), a gifted mathematician and M.I.T. professor. Together they are about to pull the perfect score; over and over again. Aided by their group of card-counters, the pair take every casino by storm, until a skilled casino enforcer (Fishburne) comes after them. Now with security on their tail, the game has changed and so have their loyalties. Trust is no longer on the table.
The Final Word: If the plot sounds familiar, it should. The movie is based on the true story of a group of M.I.T. card counters who for a time dominated Vegas blackjack tables. With the ever-versatile Spacey as the cunning professor who started the group, audiences may very well take a gamble on this new film.
MARCH 28

The Forbidden Kingdom
Starring: Jet Li , Jackie Chan , Michael Angarano & Collin Chou
Directed by: Rob Minkoff for distribution by Lionsgate
Jason Tripitikas (Angarano) is an American teenager obsessed with Hong Kong cinema. Wanting to be apart of their world, Jason is soon shocked to find a prop from his favorite film in a Chinese pawnshop. He is even more shocked when the prop transports him back to the time of ancient China and right in the middle of a battle. Now fighting shoulder to shoulder with his on-screen idols, Jason is about to take center stage in their brand new adventure.
The Final Word: Think Last Action Hero without all of the big budget/big bust effects. Audiences love Jet Li & Jackie Chan, plus history has proven both have done even better at the box office when paired with a second high profile celebrity. It should be interesting to see how they do paired together.
APRIL 18

88 Minutes
Starring: Al Pacino , Alicia Witt , Leelee Sobieski , Amy Brenneman & Deborah Kara Unger
Directed by: Jon Avnet for distribution by TriStar Pictures (Sony)
In a world where experts can sway anyone for the right price, Dr. Jack Gramm (Pacino) is about to come face-to-face with a harsh reality. After receiving a phone call saying he has only 88 minutes left to live, Gramm finds his world unraveling. While trying to track down the psycho threatening his life, Jack also soon finds himself implicated in the death of a ex-lover. With the odds mounting and the number of people who want him dead seem to growing, time is coming at a premium.
The Final Word: While I like the cast and the basic premise, I almost feel like we've seen this somewhere before. It seems like the movie is trying to pack to many storylines in one movie.
